  • Gain comprehensive knowledge and understanding of third-molar extractions through clear and concise lectures, enabling participants to make informed decisions and plan successful procedures.
  • Develop proficiency in assessing, planning, and extracting impacted teeth using preoperative planning with orthopantomogram (OPG) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans, to accurately interpret and analyze anatomical structures, aiding in surgical planning and decision-making.
  • Plan surgical extractions preoperatively, considering factors such as tooth position, impaction type, root morphology, and proximity to vital structures.
  • Classify impacted teeth based on angulation, depth, and relation to adjacent structures.
  • Understand the indications and contraindications for the removal of impacted wisdom teeth.
  • Recognize the clinical features of pericoronitis and manage it appropriately.
  • Follow a step-by-step approach for the informed consent process for surgical removal of impacted teeth.
  • Select and utilize the appropriate armamentarium, including instruments and materials, to facilitate successful and safe surgical procedures.
  • Design flaps for appropriate access, employing proper techniques and incision patterns to optimize visualization and surgical maneuverability.
  • Remove bone as necessary, employing techniques and instruments to facilitate extraction and preserve surrounding anatomical structures. Section teeth when indicated, utilizing appropriate methods to remove impacted teeth safely and efficiently.
  • Understand, prevent, and effectively manage postoperative complications that may arise, including dry socket and other potential complications.
  • Familiarize yourself with different types of suture materials and understand the indications for using specific suture materials based on wound characteristics, such as tension, location, and anticipated healing requirements.
  • Acquire skills in various suturing techniques employed in wisdom teeth removal to achieve precise wound closure and minimize postoperative complications, such as bleeding, infection, and wound dehiscence, through the proper selection and application of sutures.
  • Understand the appropriate use of antibiotic prophylaxis in impacted teeth extraction.
  • Enhance surgical skills through extensive hands-on training, utilizing 3D printed models based on actual patient scenarios representing varying levels of complexity, allowing participants to progressively develop their proficiency and gain experience in managing these cases.

By achieving these objectives, participants will acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to extract impacted wisdom teeth and manage surgical complications.

The combination of lectures, hands-on training with 3D printed models, and emphasis on preoperative planning will provide participants with a realistic and practical learning experience.
